Mud painting of the Trossachs

Another scorching day and I decide to experiment with some mud paintings of our local landscape in the garden. After all there is no worry over the cost of wasting paint...it just comes out of the garden soil. As for making a mess: no worries on that score its only water and mud.

And all that is needed for this technique is mud+water+a roll of wallpaper lining paper + gravity.

You don't even need a brush.....
The secret, if there is one, is in the old adage:" less is more". Last week at Dollar Summer School a retired architect told the story of how as a student at Glasgow School of Art he had spent one morning doing a detailed architectural watercolour and his Head of Department came along took one look at it and said:" Have you got a s sponge?"

With that he took the painting to the sink and washed it out- leaving the merest trace.
And it worked.
