Boredom Threshold, River Festival, Maidstone

We decided today to pop into town as the River Festival was on and we'd never been before. The Medway runs through the centre of town but is often strangely ignored and a little forlorn so it was so wonderful to see it a hive of activity, people, colour, warmth and humour - all with a touch of the surreal and the odd (in a great way!).
With the main image I spotted the man in the sunglasses first and thought I would include him in my first shot of the day but then I saw the two bored small kids and knew I just had to reframe to include them!  The first extra, "The King Does A U-Turn", just struck me as both surreal and funny. With the second extra, "Straw(berry) Dogs", I waited a few seconds until the man and his little girl walked into the composition and there was my image. The next I loved because of the incongruity of the narrow boat and the sculpture of the water buffalo. The last two sort of refer to each other. I particularly like the Action Men on the jeep as I had one when I was small - it brought back lots of memories.
We had such a great time taking photographs today  - the weather was perfect and the atmosphere was so relaxed and convivial. Of course, we managed to sneak in a lovely cold pint before we headed home.
