Quod oculus meus videt

Little Moreton Hall

Another visit to a National Trust Property, this time Little Moreton Hall near Congleton in Cheshire.

The building's lines might best be described as wonky.  Many of the original features remain from 400+ years ago.  I found the floors on the first floor particularly interesting.  Rather than made from wood, the builders had used a lime ash mixture to provide solid flooring.  It has the lightness of pumice, rather than concrete, and was principally chosen to reduce the risk of fire spreading between floors of the building.

The building and gardens are surrounded by this moat. which offered a nice reflection of the house in this image.
