Bless This Blossom

Day Six in Kos

We travelled into Kos Town on the bus this morning & soaked up the sights & sun on our last visit there.

We pottered around the ruins of the Harbour Quarter. Between 1934 & 1942, Agora (the Italian Archaeological Service) undertook extensive excavation works, helping to unearth a host of public building, the double sanctuary of Aphrodite & the sanctuary of Herakles, all thought to originate from the Hellenisitic period & Late Antiquity. The ruins were quite interesting & are set in a walled enclosure amongst blossoming flowers & palm trees. They must have laid on a special feature for the tourists - a bicycle wheel sat next to a chair was a particular highlight.

As you can imagine, white churches much like this one are commonplace all over Greece, but they have such a simple, beautiful & iconic charm that I just had to blip a particularly sweet example of them. This pink blossom springs up all over the Town & offers a real contrast here.

The midday heat curtailed our sight seeing & we made our way to our favourite restaurant, which overlooks the Harbour Quarter. We enjoyed a Greek pizza & whilst Jen read & I had a nap. Perfic!

More entertainment & hilarity this evening! It was the 'weekly' Mr Platanistacompetition (not quite sure how often they do this competition, but I imagine it probably is once a week! The joys for those staying for more than 7 days!). And would you have it, I was one of the lucky few to be selected to go up on stage... Hurrah...! Our friend Paulo was also chosen. I must admit it was as fun as it was humiliating. We had to cat walk & do muscle poses, drink a beer through a straw, pretend to be Tarzan & save Jane & then run into the crowd & get as many kisses as possible in 30 seconds. It was quality entertainment.

And for the results... I came 3rd (which was a complete shock), Paulo came 2nd (he's a very dashing & charming Portugese chap (not that I'm making excuses) & a welsh lad Ash, who was a nice guy & had the muscles to boot, came an unsurprising runaway winner.

Kiss. Kiss. Bless. Bless.
