HIGH FIVE
The Tyneside Cinema in Newcastle are showing a season of nostalgic films from the 90's so a few weeks ago I checked the website and found 3 films I wanted to see. Today was the first one - Forrest Gump. Originally released in 1994 it won six Oscars, including Best Picture and Best Actor for Tom Hanks.
Its Newcastle Pride weekend so I got to town early to see what was happening. Newcastle is always busy on a Saturday but today it was extra lively and packed with colourful characters .You can see one of them in my blip. I would have liked to have got a better shot but they were across the road --- and moving fast. ( Ive added an Extra of a better photo of this chap which I found online ) There were lots of stalls set up near Greys Monument and music was playing. Ive added an Extra of a couple of " Dancing Flower Men "..
The film started at 2.30pm and I got to the cinema in good time. There were only about a dozen people in the audience. Haven't been to the cinema for ages and I had forgotten there would be so many adverts before the film. Half an hour of adverts....... annoying. I really enjoyed the film. Ive seen it before of course but there's a lot going on and I had forgotten bits of it.
Came out of the cinema around 5.10pm and town was a lot quieter. All the stalls were getting packed away and the streets were back to normal. There was a big event this evening at The Northern Pride Arena so I guess that's where everyone was ....... and the fun will continue tomorrow as well. Did a quick shop in Tesco before getting the bus home.
The weather today was very warm and muggy. Rain was forecast for late in the day but it never happened.
