The Wallcreeper (sorry, yes again) Fledgling …
… has emerged from its hidden nest on my 5th visit to the Durnand Gorge where I first spotted them a week ago, but there is only one and he is very demanding! These are such rare birds that I hope you won’t mind if I put in a few extras to try to tell his story.
Extra 1, still fluffy on his body and head.
Extra 2, not sure how to use his crampons.
Extra 3, in a precarious feeding position with on other 30m below straight into the water if he falls, he can’t fly properly yet.
Extra 4, Dad desperately seeking him with a beak full of insects for about 35 minutes as he had hidden away for a rest perhaps.
How privileged we were to watch this activity this morning. I shall go again tomorrow for the last time before they disappear from this cliff, perhaps till they nest there again next year.
Huge thanks also for your love of gentians yesterday and I hope you are having a great weekend.
