Mormon in the mud
Identification - Papilio memnon - Great Mormon, female.
The otter shit saved me from a rather insipid safari, by inviting this female mormon to sample its juices. Mud puddling is usually the domain of the males, but I have read that females will also mud puddle after egg laying, presumably to top up on lost nutrients.
The wings were constantly fluttering while she was on the ground, so I selected shutter priority and upped the shutter speed to 250th, the fastest the flash will allow. It turned out rather well.
Update - I did some RAW work to bring out more detail in the shadows, the image was a bit dark. Black is always a difficult subject.
