Bug Eye

A milkweed bug, resting on a leaf of, you guessed it, a milkweed plant in the prairie. Hard to miss because of its orange markings against all that green. The milkweed bug absorbs a toxic chemical from the plant, perhaps its colouring acts as a warning.

Extras: Yellow Streak. The yellow under wings and tail of the northern flicker woodpecker are not normally evident. A group of them were having a debate just prior to this one's departure.

Sitting Pretty. A female northern cardinal. Lovely colour.
