Cider House Rules

People only ask questions when they're ready to hear the answers.”
John Irving, The Cider House Rules
Relaxed start to the day after a late night (for me) last night. After a morning spent discussing business plans and looking through reports it was time for another al fresco lunch with the Robin.
E asked if I’d heard the deer ‘coughing’ in the night, there’s a Muntjac that likes the taste of the goodies in the nearby copse, we could hear it still. I’d wondered what it was and had even peered out through the curtains last night/early this morning, but it was too dark to see anything.
Early afternoon and time for a shared meditation and follow-up when I remembered another photo I wanted to do at the cider barn. It dates back to the nineteenth century, when a horse would have been harnessed to walk in a circle, turning the grinding wheel in the stone trough to crush the apples. Instead of using a horse, E’s father had rigged up an old motorbike (just for clarity we’re talking twentieth century now of course), connected to the millstone via various bits of timber and metal. Set it going and it would run in circles, turning the grinding stone as it did so, very Heath Robinson!.
Sad to say my photography indulgence had come to an end and it was time for me to head off, home in time to watch the England Spain match.
