Marjorie's ramblings

The shop assistant

First, I must tell you about the film, Younger, that is on at many cinemas at the moment. Alex Rotas is the stills photographer for the project, which came out of her work photographing older athletes. She has been doing this for years.

I loved the 6 minute short film about Alex, shown before the main documentary. It showcased her and her work well.

The film is heart warming as you hear the stories behind the older, elderly and very old athletes who keep competing. It deserves a wider audience than the 14 of us who watched in Hexham this afternoon.

In truth, I thought that the cinematography was no way as good as Alex's still photographs. I also did not understand why we saw all female athletes bar one man. That was not explained. It was a bit repetitive too.

Anyway, do see it, but don't try to run 5k immediately!!

I had a busy day. Tidying for Karyn to clean the house. Then a trip to the tip, the charity shop and on to see Maureen and Brian. Brian is in bed nearly all the time. He was sleeping peacefully when I arrived. When he woke, we had a lovely chat. He knows he is dying and seems content with his situation. He is not one to complain about anything.

Maureen is struggling in so many ways. The lift in the home has been out of action for over a week so she has been confined to their room on the second floor. Her cataract surgery scheduled for last week had to be cancelled.

Once you are in the place, you can't get out, because the doors on the staircases are locked with a code. Julie had warned me, so I just phoned the home from upstairs and asked for the code to get out.

Before the film I shopped for a few items in the centre of town. (The supermarket shopping came later.) This delightful assistant served me in one shop. I admired the attention he gives to his appearance and he allowed me to take a photo. "I don't usually." There was no chance to do more than grab this without creating a queue.

I can't imagine how uncomfortable they are. He has 36 (and I did not enquire)!

Home eventually, where Dick was cutting the grass in the rain. Yes, MORE RAIN!
