Reflecting on the day

It became really muggy this afternoon with grey clouds looming over the hills.  I was sure we were in for a good old thunderstorm, but the sun was shining when I finished work, so I thought I'd go for another walk for an hour or so, taking the same route as I did on Saturday.  It was lovely for about half an hour, then went downhill.

It feels like it's been a terrible summer for butterflies.  I have hardly seen any, beyond a few Speckled Woods (one in the garden today, actually), the ubiquitous Small Whites, and only one or two other kinds.  I was pleased to see a Meadow Brown today, feasting on some thistles.

We didn't get thunder this evening, but it rained heavily for a while.  In fact, you might well say it wis, like, pure stoatin' doon.  It flooded the patio under an inch of water and my gutter doesn't work anymore.
