A Superb Sunday
A very special Sunday:
- Livestream with Deb, our daughter, and Donald, our minister in UK
- traditional Sunday breakfast of butter croissants and our own sweet, pink grapefruit
- church service up in the castle
- Adega, reopened after a fortnight's holiday, with lovely Sergio back
- very welcome nap, after disturbed night with the Nocturnal Triathlon going past our Land
- drink at Rui's in Monsaraz (other side of Lake)
- lecture about the future of the Earth by a professor from Lisbon Uni, who's been involved with the UN on climate alterations (main takeaway being that Europe is the world's best on tackling the needed changes)
- dinner at Sahida restaurant with Eileen and Tina, absolutely amazing view from their terrace (extra a view of Mourão from there; our two buildings visible on either side of the small chapel to left on foreground of castle)
- ending with an absolutely brilliant performance by Dulce Pontes in Monsaraz castle; main is with her band, and an extra with the Cante Alentejano men; she sang all sorts of music, loads of fun, dancing barefoot across the stage, playing the piano, solo with the talented Spanish guitarrist, audience joining in, getting folk to come up and share her sweet wine; for those on my WhatsApp, I've posted some samples on my status.
Gratefuls:
- all the above, plus Eileen lending me her cardigan; it was cold by midnight up there, with the wind, and that after an afternoon of extreme heat, typical Alentejo
- superb concert in stunning setting for only five euros, obviously subsidised by the town council (start of their biennial festival)
- being surrounded by so much beauty, the colours as the sun went down! but not going to use any more extras
Shame about England losing in the Euros final, but Spain played so well (not that we watched it, but kept checking the score).
Also shame about America.
