Picnic on the green

We’ve had a lovely sunny day and the girls we’re out playing make believe games in the garden all morning whilst mummy went to a rehearsal.

They were then whisked off to meet with Bristol friends who are going to be away for the whole of the summer but came back in time for a gathering of the Bailbrook friends and neighbours on the green for a picnic.
The occasion? Not the football but a wonderful celebration for the return of a delightful young lady M who, only 10 days into the start of her secondary school last September, was diagnosed with cancer and has been in hospital most of the time since.  She’s still not at school except via the internet but she is home and full of intelligence and wit. You may remember that John did a 50K race over Dartmoor last March to help raise funds for the charity.

Neighbours came and went bringing food and drinks and the children played ball games ( M can be seen here with her back to the camera playing a game), had adventures in the woods or played on the hammock that had been set up between the trees. Jude spent most of her time in this with her friend Piper, they were being spun quite alarmingly by the older children but were squealing with delight.

Time to leave as something else was going on. We all went to Eda’s friend’s new house just down the road to have Pizza and watch the football.

It was a fun evening in good company despite the outcome for England. Again the kids had a great time but of course they were late to bed. Parents too as we are just back and they are off to the airport at silly o’clock as they fly tomorrow at 6.00am!

Note Jude in the picture wearing Eda’s leotard from yesterday wanting to be a ballerina like her of course!
