The Orangery

This is in Dalkeith Country Park,

The Orangery was apparently built around 1832 to a design by William Burn and was actually used to grow exotic fruits for the delight of the Duke of Buccleuch , and for his consumption in Dalkeith Palace nearby.

According to the Casembi web site (they designed the modern lighting for it), it consumed a ton of coal every day, which heated a unique under floor  condenser system.

The whole place , including the very attractive "Restoration Yard" reminded me of Culzean Country Park, where I worked as a student exactly 50 years ago.

And there is of course an orangery there too.....though rather different.
