Allotment working party

A number of us gathered at the site this afternoon for an allotment working party and barbecue.

One of our plotholders has a “digging for giving” site growing produce for local food banks. Unfortunately he’s been ill in the last few weeks and, as a result, the plot had become very overgrown and weedy. These six soon put it right.

The other task was to begin clearing an area which used to be a compost heap which is now covered in brambles and nettles well over 6 foot high. We made a start and in doing so discovered some people had taken the opportunity to dump all sorts of stuff in the space.

We have a visit by the Community Payback scheme next Sunday who will, all being well, complete the clearance of this corner of the site which we will then turn into and insect bank and wild flower area.

Excellent barbecue afterward, with the gazebo providing shelter as the rain teemed down towards the end of the afternoon
