Smoo Cave

On a four day cycling trip with H+S from Durness to John O'Groats. Got the bike bus from Inverness to Durness last night and set off this morning. Smoo Cave is a spectacular limestone cave just outside Durness. The limestone was laid down in a shallow sea around 480 million years ago. The first extra is an illuminated waterfall inside the cave.

As we took the tents down this morning we heard a frantic squeaking on the other side of a low dry stone wall: there was a rabbit warren in the field and a stoat had just captured a rabbit. The stoat dragged the rabbit to the wall, with a series of agile bounds through thick grass, and took it into a hole in the wall, where a second stoat was waiting.   The second extra is a shot of the stoat on the wall.

Unfortunately my gear cable broke this afternoon halfway down Loch Hope, so I'll have to complete the trip with only the two front gears, my rear gears are now locked into just one gear!
