On Chesil Beach

A trip out this afternoon with my sister on the Dorset Wildlife Trust’s Fleet Ferry. The Fleet is the stretch of water that lies behind Chesil Beach, the extraordinary structure that stretches from Portland Bill to Abbotsbury. The Beach is all fantastically weathered pebbles overlying a base of Kimmeridge Clay. The highlight for me were the Little Terns that breed on one section of the Beach. So far they are having a good year. I love terns, and these are my favourites.

I have taken a lot of photos today. Extras are more Little Terns ( adults and a fledgling) , and a couple of the isolated cabins that occupy sections of the Beach.
