Look Out

The Great East Window

A stop off today at Gloucester. The cathedral was closed when I arrived, the Kings School Foundation celebration, so I had lunch nearby and then had a look at Gloucester Docks. I then returned to the cathedral.

Gloucester Cathedral is a magnificent building, so much to see and take in. This window, largely medieval, is a remarkable survivor. As is the cathedral. An abbey prior to the dissolution of the monasteries, it survived because Edward II is buried here. Henry VIII had respect for his predecessors. So he made it the cathedral of a new diocese in his new Church of England.

I lit a candle.
