Half hearted?

There were news pieces yesterday about the pollution incident on Portobello Beach - just along the coast from the earlier one in Musselburgh. The beach did seem quieter today, even on a sunny day. Whether the pollution moved along the coast or it was just found a little later here I'm not clear. It said the problem was identified by 'routine samples'. Surely with a pollution issue just down the coast there should have been more proactive sampling? The advice was not to swim or even paddle in the water. Trouble is that if this is SEPA's idea of a warning - a few A4 posters on lampposts along the Prom - it doesn't look very serious. Why aren't there big, roadworks-style signs at the bottom of every street leading to the Promenade? And the automatic water quality sign outside the baths wasn't working either, which isn't very good.
Update: So I checked the SEPA website and apparently the advice has changed today - "Update 12/07/24 – Portobello Central - Results of water quality sample taken at Portobello Central on 11/07/2024 show improved water quality. Advice against bathing or paddling has been removed." So maybe there were big signs which they have removed but they didn't take down all of the A4 notices. Somehow I think not. Still it looks like those people in the water today should be okay, which is good news.
