Cuckoo spit or not?

We know it as Cuckoo Spit but it has nothing to do with the bird. The foam is generally created by Froghopper larvae. It provides insulation from heat and cold, moisture and concealment.

There was a programme on Radio 4 recently and I was amazed to discover that the Froghopper can jump about 70 cm vertically BUT accelerates during the jump to over 400G!

To put that in perspective, a pilot flying a jet starts to experience the first signs of blackout when he reaches 5G or more.
