Farewell to Chamois

We left this magical mountain village and began the long trek back to Scotland.
What has impressed me most about our short stay is the way Italy embraces culture in its daily life, often in the most unexpected ways.
The mountain restaurant in Chamois had a big print of Giacometti advertising an exhibition in Paris and our modest airport hotel in Turin had a print of Leonardo da Vinci. ( see extra).
Can you imagine that in a British airport hotel?
But then  Milan is the design capital of the world. And I am so grateful we managed to see the Dumo before going up into the Italian Alps.
As for our 15 hour journey back to Bridge of Allan, I regret to say that once we touched down in Gatwick and experienced London traffic I felt I had returned to a broken Britain. Why doesn’t the city sort out its traffic problem?
There is no direct link between Gatwick and Kings Cross station, so we were forced to take a taxi. Even though we had allowed over two hours for this journey to catch the train to Scotland it was not enough.
We missed it and had to pay a £50 penalty in order to board the next train. Oh yes we lost our prebooked first class seats too
Were we glad to get off the train in Stirling and touch down again on Scottish soil? You bet.
