Best laid plans

This was an early morning visitor to the garden, spotted as I was getting breakfast ready.

I rang my hairdresser this morning to book a hair cut, and I thought she told me she had a slot at 3.00 pm this afternoon, or one on Friday … but at that point we were cut off and a disembodied voice said "Please hang up!". I rang back and confirmed that I’d like the 3.00 appointment this afternoon.

I duly set off for the 40 minute walk to Buckhurst Hill at 2.15 but unfortunately, when I arrived, my hairdresser told me she was expecting me tomorrow at 3.00 pm! I must have misheard what she said before the call was cut off. I turned round to walk straight back home again, but stopped a short way along the road because by this time the school children were starting to come out of the local primary school and I thought I’d surprise my two granddaughters by being there when they came out.

I sat and waited until they came into view with their Mum, and we all had lovely hugs. I walked with them most of their way home so that my daughter-in-law and I could each hold one child’s hand – there are several roads to cross and the girls are in a world of their own after they come out of school, so it’s safer that way.

We then parted company and went our separate ways, and I carried on home. They are coming round shortly for a visit and some supper with us, so I shall enjoy seeing them twice in one day.
