HMP LANCASTER CASTLE AND THE JUDGES' LODGINGS

Garron and I had a day out today whilst Hubby stayed home to get windows fixed, we had someone coming round this  morning to do the work - all done now and looking much better.

We went by train and going  it arrived on time and no problem and we arrived in Lancaster before 10.00 am.  We went straight to HMP Lancaster Castle and to Atkinsons for a lovey coffee and snack (I had a small croissant,  Garron had a fruit cake).  We then went into the little exhibition room to tell you all about the Pendle Witches - horrific really.

We the went around the Police Museum, which was very interesting.  We only did a part of it as Garron needs  to sit regularly and there were plenty of seats available so that was good.

After that we walked on down to the Judges Lodgings (only 3 mins away).  This was on 3 floors and obviously too much for Garron but he was happy staying in the kitchen area talking to the volunteer in there who was very knowledgeable and helpful.

I carried on to the upper levels and learnt about Gillows, the famous furniture makers of Lancaster.

The Judges’ Lodgings is Lancaster’s oldest town house, standing on the site of an earlier hall. The current house, built around 1625, was the residence of wealthy Lancaster citizens for nearly 200 years, until it was bought by the county magistrates to house visiting judges who were attending the assize courts in Lancaster Castle.

It showed you all sides of life in those times, bad as well as good and is therefore very thought provoking.

we then went back to Atkinsons for a light lunch before going back to the station for the 13.09 home.  Therein was the problem, it was cancelled.  This meant sitting on Lancaster Station for 1 hour 20 minutes to wait for the next train.  The station is currently undergoing renovation so there is scaffolding everywhere, however we did manage  to find a place to sit but not the most comfortable seats to stay in for a long time.

When the train arrived it was heaving - I did manage to get  in and get seats, I could stand but Garron can't,  Anyway we got back OK.  This however has put me off taking him anywhere like that by train again due to his disability he is just unable to stand for any length of time and when you get two lots of passengers on one already crowded train it's not great.  Lesson learnt.

Overall a good and interesting day.  Garron is now resting whilst I am editing my photos.

Do take care everyone and stay safe.  I will see you all tomorrow.
