Still summer

Though the rain keeps falling, flowers keep blooming to remind us that it is still summer.

I understand that the colour depends on the type of soil, however, I am confused when a house just a couple of houses along has a different colour (see extra). Surely the colour should be the same if the soil is the same. You can I don’t understand the intricacies of gardening much. 

That said, I really find gardening relaxing and am waiting for the agapanthus to flower.
