Rain...

A day of grey skies and heavy rain.
I caught an early train to Stockport (passing a favourite sculpture - the Salmon of Steel - on the station forecourt).
The trip was for a day of tests and data collection at UK Biobank - a big longitudinal health research project. I opted into this years ago. Face-to-face visits are occasional, and always impeccably well-organised. The hardest part, today, was a 30 minute MRI scan of the brain: keeping still, inside the noisy apparatus, and trying to stay calm. It all made me feel very grateful to be there just as a research participant, not a patient.
