Out and About

Harrop Tarn

We celebrated the west Thirlmere road being reopened (in May 2024) ,  with a swim in Harrop Tarn. The road had been closed for two and half years while United Utilties  tried to avoid stablising a rocky bank with pine trees damaged in Storm Arwen which blocked the road in Nov 2021.  A lot of local lobbying, especially by cyclists who had been forced onto the busy,  windy A591 with buses and vans,  finally made the water company bow to pressure.
Anyway you can at last drive to the car park from which a very steep path  (blip) winds up to Harrop Tarn. Very peaceful up at the tarn . We admired the water lilies (which I  blipped before  the storm) while we swam and orchids (probably heath) all around
