Meadows Community Garden

When someone first started the community garden in the Meadows a few years ago, I was quite sceptical about the whole enterprise. I thought the local thugs would trash it, but I was wrong. They have left it alone to flourish and grow bigger. Apple trees and some vegetables have been added to the plot but it is the array of flowers that makes it so lovely to see at the moment.

Beside the garden there is a wooden box of books available for people to borrow or add to. I found a book at the weekend by Eric Lomax - The Railway Man. The author was an Edinburgh man who was a POW in Japan during WWII and cruelly tortured by the Kempeitai. It was a hard read but was un put downable. In the circumstances he endured one has to wonder at the spirit of men that can live through a terrible ordeal like that and have some sort of life afterwards.
