Sally Mair - Loving life

By Sallymair

Another year on the tally!

What a lovely day today.
The sun shone and it was actually warm. Colin and I went down to Smeaton for a light lunch and a wander in the garden. We arrived just before one and managed to bag one of the outdoor tables in the sunshine. We were there for around two hours, what joy to feel warm while sitting outdoors.
Lots of young birds around to keep us amused in particular a baby robin and dunnock both of whom picked the same spot to lie in the sunshine with their wings fully spread out enjoying the warmth. There was also the tattiest coal tit I've ever seen. Mum I think, having had a tough breeding season.
We drove home and then headed out to Cafe Andaluz for an early dinner where both girls and one son in law and their families as well as a couple of friends joined us to celebrate. Eilidh and Isobel made my birthday cakes and decorated them themselves which was lovely. Josie was particularly impressed.
The garden at home was in birthday mode too with my water lilies open, the raspberries cropping well and even the first sweet peas opening.
I've had a lovely day and can't believe how lucky I've been to have a dry, warm, summer day for my celebrations. If only the weather was going to continue.
