A blast from the past....

Neck still sore this morning.  Let the hot water in the shower run on it for ages and it felt a little easier.  

D was playing golf in Edinburgh so left just after 9.30am.  We're off on little jaunt tomorrow for the night and I'm so excited about it.  (You'll have to tune in tomorrow to find out where!!! :-)) so I gathered my stuff together ready to go in my overnight bag later.

Whilst having lunch I watched my new guilty pleasure - Abby Clancy's Celebrity Homes!  Not my usual viewing pleasure, but fun to see behind the doors of some celebrities houses.  Some tacky, some beautiful and some wacky, today's example being Caprice with a swing in her living room!  

That over, I sent about making something I haven't tasted in about 15 years, my mum's Chocolate Mint Cake. 

Back in the day, whenever we had friends over for dinner, I used to ask my mum to make this to serve with coffee after the food, in place of after dinner mints.  Everybody loved it.  Of course she would make it at other times too and surprise us with it.  It never lasted long!  

She died in 2011 and I don't remember having it in the two years before she died, as her arthritis in her hands made making certain dishes too painful.  I did write the recipe down but couldn't remember where, so we've been deprived of the delight this is for a long time.

Well I found the recipe!  In a little book of handwritten recipes that I started long before D and I got married!  It's full of delightful recipes like savoury mince (yuk!) Salsa de Funghi (?) and cucumber & yogurt soup!  But also my gran's date and walnut loaf, Bakewell tart and her clootie dumpling recipes AND my mum's chocolate mint cake!  RESULT!  :-))

So there's a tray of choc mint cake in the fridge and D and I have sampled a tiny bit (see extra) and all I can say is mum, you taught me well!  I closed my eyes as I bit into that little piece and it was as though she was in the room :-))

Now dinner and to finish getting ready for our little trip.  Good times :D
