A Meandering Life...

Hover Over an Alpine Meadow

This hoverfly was enjoying feasting on this Pilosella Fox and Cubs this morning.

Hoverflies can help control pests like aphids but the Fox & Cubs are not generally welcomed by most gardeners apparently. They are an alpine plant introduced to Britain back in 1620 but enjoyed the climate so much they spread like wildfire. The ones in my back lawn arrived during my first 'no mow May' a couple of years ago. They bring a lot of colour amongst the long grasses and spreading lupins, daisies and buttercups that covers a 1/3rd of my lawn.

They have migrated into flowerpots and even cracks in the patio but I'm fine with that. I can remove those that get out of hand and allow wild pockets to spring up in corners etc. It allows more opportunities for Blips... ;o)
