a lifetime burning

Greenfinch

This year has seen a very welcome return of Greenfinches to the garden.  They've suffered through disease in recent years and for a while we didn't see them at all.  Fingers, crossed, but this year doe seem to have brought a bit of a resurgence in numbers and we are regularly seeing little groups of them at the bird feeder.

The goldfinches are really not that happy about it though.  They've become used to dominating the feeders.  Greenfinches being that much bigger, are able to sit on a feeder and ignore the flybys of the waiting smaller finches.  But it is certainly fun for us to watch.
