Yellow Springs

Saturday
After several days of heavy overcast skies, it was great to see blue skies and sunshine back today. We enjoyed our breakfast outside on the patio, then late morning headed up to just north of Xenia with the bikes, to ride a northern section of the Little Miami trail, as far as Yellow Springs, the subject of my collage. The town is named after nearby natural springs, high in iron content. It was founded in 1825 by followers of Robert Owen, a founder of utopian socialism and the cooperative movement, and those ideals of community and human rights remain at the heart of Yellow Springs today, partly due to the presence of the liberal arts college Antioch College. It has an arty, hippie type vibe, and is home to a number of independent shops featuring local artists work, and assorted eateries. We left our bikes at the restored railway station, and had a walk around, taking a few photos, and treating ourselves to an ice cream, before returning, for 14 miles return. I’ve added an extra collage of shots from the bike trail.
