Lion
If the pattern of recent days was to be continued you’d expect a Shaun today. We don’t pass any Shaun’s today. I’m sure he’ll be back in the next few days.
What a day of weather. Torrential rain this morning. A drier interlude early in the afternoon was followed by a storm of great intensity with thunder which we were caught in as we came home after calling in at the allotment.
Maidstone Model Engineering Club were operating in Mote Park during the drier interlude. Mostly diesels except for Lion, a locomotive with a controversial provenance. We saw what is claimed to be Lion in Liverpool Museum last week.
Lion was the star of the Titfield Thunderbolt. However, it seems it may not have been the original Lion at all but a different loco altogether:
“no evidence besides oral tradition that the locomotive discovered in 1923 and now preserved as Lion is in fact LMR locomotive 57 Lion… it could be one of a number of other locomotives acquired by the Mersey Docks and Harbour Board”
During the inclement weather this morning we planned a trip to Shetland next June. Booked accommodation and sorted out the journey up there. We’ll have to wait until the end of the year to book the ferry from Aberdeen.
Rounded off the evening speaking to Chris, Landon and Maddy in California where the temperatures are in the 90s f. They’re going to the pool now
