Parting and New Beginnings

Andy arrived home late yesterday evening so we had a slightly later start than usual today. The weather was wet and grey and has stayed that way all day. We spent some time reading the news and discussing the general election results. Then I joined by remote link, the funeral of a longtime colleague which was held in Edinburgh. It was a moving and thought provoking occasion. This afternoon I’ve popped out to get a gift for someone I’m seeing tomorrow, and then finished potting up vegetables in the garden.

My blip today is in memory of Dr ‘Bill’ Mason, a colleague who was a man of high standards, warmth and generosity. Bill was instrumental in cementing my career and his passion, rigour, thoughtfulness and humility taught me much. The beautiful Scottish folk song, The Parting Glass, sung by Karine Polwart, was chosen by Bill to be played today.
