The June Gap is over.

You may here Botanists talking about the June Gap.
It is true that in April and May we get a burst of Spring flowers which most people find a great joy.
But the in the month of June not so many new species come into bloom.
But from the beginning of July the main Summer flowers appears and our roadside hedgerows become a picture at least where the local Council has not mowed them bare.

Here is an example. It is Meadow Cranesbill. Geranium pratense. Here it is as found on our walk this morning.

I will not tell you how I voted or whether I am pleased with the outcome.
But I am amused by the strange effects of the voting system. When I was young and taught Goverment and Politics in a Canadian University one of my courses included some lectures on different electoral systems.
The papers are full of headlines about a Labour Landslide. And yet over 60% of those who voted clearly did not want a Labout Government. But our system is such that with just over one third of the votes they have two thirds of the seats. Of course the Conservatives benefited from this distortion five years ago. And the system makes it very difficult for small new parties to get seats.
I could go on but this is not the place.
I wish the new government good luck. The challenges they face are far more difficult than those of fifty years ago.
