Balcony flowers, prepping for Zurich, C’s dilemna
Back blip
Preparing for an online assessment of a CELTA in Munich tomorrow. Bb was out for a business dinner up by the Cruz de Pedralbes. I had a couple of little dishes in our nearby Middle Eastern restaurant, next to Ramon’s.
My friend C, who’s just gone to work on a CELTA course in London for a month, has just been asked if she’d mind working half on the daytime course and being main course tutor on an already running part time evening course, twice a week. This was totally unexpected and she had already put a lot of work into preparing her input sessions for the daytime course, which she wouldn’t then be using as she’d just be doing lesson planning, lesson observations and feedback on both courses. We had a long phone chat about it. One the one hand, she wants to help the school as they have people off sick. On the other hand, she’s only there for a month and it would mean a few incredibly long days and not getting home till after 10. Having two ‘free’ mornings a week isn’t the same as getting home at a reasonable time every night. I think it’s an unreasonable request for a freelancer and suggested she put the pros and cons on paper. The person asking her perhaps doesn’t understand all the ins and outs and may even have somebody else to ask. Let’s see.
