An appropriate hoarding at building project.

We’d spare keys cut recently. Some needed further adjustment, so we went to the town late in the afternoon. My wife then went to several other shops and I had a look at the building project opposite the key place.

The former Madras College school building and grounds on South Street were acquired from Fife Council by the University of St Andrews in 2021 and Madras College relocated to a new purpose-built building at Bell Brae, on the outskirts of St Andrews thereafter. We pass one of the access points for the new school on our way into St Andrews. It’s a nice new school. Madras College was established in 1833; the original quadrangle was still there last time I walked around the school. I hope they have preserved it.

The site hoarding shows the red gowned University undergraduate students during their traditional Sunday pier walk. It’s really rather eye-catching and appropriate.

The site will be redeveloped into a centre of excellence for research and teaching in the Social Sciences; it will host the University’s School of International Relations and the new St Andrews Business School. Due for completion in 2027.
