Waiting

We're into that strange period when more or less all the electioneering has been done, but the polls haven't closed and the exit poll has not been released. A time for waiting. And perhaps reflecting.

Today is a good day to do a one year on shot, comparing this blip with last year (taken from the same angle but a bit further away). At that stage, a lot of encroaching greenery from next door and we were also still housing neatwithice and W's plants. Don't get me wrong. I wasn't displeased with where we were this time last year with the garden, because we had already rescued the bottom bed and refilled it with some decent plants, including lots of our lilies from the Edinburgh balcony, none of which survived (well, the asiatic ones did (and we are waiting for them to flower), but not the golden ones - they have not regrown this year, except in the pot that got left by the garage, where again we are waiting for them to flower). I had also cleared out the crazy paving and it's never looked as tidy as it did in those few days in July last year. It certainly does not now. But I was yet to clear the upper level (although I had done by 13 July) and it was not until November that we sorted out a new fence to replace the dilapidated one.

Anyway, this year, not least with that magnificent spike of foxglove flowers, we are much closer to what we want to create with a sort of walled cottage garden effect, based on perennials and not annuals.

This photograph was taken during one of the occasional sunny intervals we enjoyed - in this case first thing in the morning. But they were definitely only occasional. I did manage to find sufficient dry time to get round into the side garden, where I weeded half of it and Mr A and I contemplated a plan for improving that part of the garden. But mostly, as ever, I sat and worked. And waited. With hope and trepidation.

Anyway, there have been lots of Tain garden blips these last few weeks, but as of the weekend there should be a lot more variety in my blips for a couple of weeks at least.

And whilst I was working this morning, there was great morning light on the beautiful roses that P brought us at the weekend, so I've popped those in the extra as a memory.

So, now, just more waiting.
