Malmö

Thanks to the amazing Øresund bridge, from our end of Copenhagen it takes about 30 minutes to go to Malmö, so we had a day trip to Sweden. The forecast wasn't great, so we made the most of the dry weather to explore the park around the castle. Then the rain started, so we headed into the old town and had lunch in a simple Japanese restaurant. It was still raining heavily, so we had coffee in a nearby café, before a short, wet walk to the public library. There I charged my phone whilst A explored the impressive building. Meanwhile the rain stopped, and the sky started to clear, so we enjoyed the old town rather more as we headed for the railway station.

Back in our hotel, we relaxed and napped. A wasn't feeling great, so I went into Copenhagen alone to enjoy the sunny evening. In exploring the big castle grounds I finally found somewhere that I recognised from my visit in 1996. There was a big crowd in front of the Little Mermaid, but the light was better from the side, and I thought she looked delightfully coy in the photo I took - as if she was fed up of being photographed (see extra).

After walking back into the city centre via the beautiful Kongens Have gardens, I took a metro. I wasn't alone in being surprised when it didn't head off in the expected direction at the junction, so I got off and walked through the fantastic university campus to get a metro on the right line.
