Steall Gorge and Meadows Walk

No such thing as bad weather only bad clothing said Billy Connolly ….. and our Ben said it wouldn’t look as good in the sun…. In Extras there is a picture of someone definitely wearing bad clothing, but never mind, she had a big parasol to keep her dry.

Anyway, we had quite a lazy morning which is to par for having two teenagers around.

It was dry when we set out for Glen Nevis but started drizzle when we reached the car park at the start of the walk.

This walk is hailed as one of the best short walks in Scotland and after completing it I can ageee wholeheartedly. Absolutely stunning. Everything you would want in a walk. You have a rocky section, lots of waterfalls, a Munro peak An Gearanach, meadows, dramatic drops, torrential flowing water and a bridge.

Met a couple with three young kids from Atlanta, they were the jolliest of people despite being soaked! Lucca loved it too she’s really embracing proper spaniel life.

The whole walk takes about 1.5 hours. When you turn the corner and see the second highest waterfall in Scotland ((An Steall) its really a breathtaking sight.

When we got to the meadows beside the waterfall there was a wire bridge. Of course the boys had to go over it. It was like the SAS who dares wins!

They walked up to look at a Bothy near the waterfall and we talked to a Dutch couple who had been in Scotland for three weeks touring around.

We headed back down and this is when the rain started heavy. Wasn’t many people around at all but then I came across two women with three kids one of the women carrying the massive parasol and wearing gym shorts and sliders. I spoke to them and she asked how far to the waterfall and she wanted to see pictures . I think she was an IG Influencer as she was heavily made up ready for a shot. Makes me smile thinking of the conversation.

We arrived back at the car and got all the waterproofs in a big bag and back to the house about one hour away.

We agreed that we enjoyed it (but secretly I prefer less rain). But then it would have been mobbed.

We had a carry out fish and chips from a place in Mallaig. Just made it in time had no idea they shut at 7:30 . The fish was just the best.

It was a day to celebrate too. My clever hard working grandson passed his three first year uni exams. A whopping 96% mark for Astro Physics, 76% for Physics and 56% for Maths. So proud.
