Day 29 - A welcome sight!

It’s always a joy to see the Angel of the North looking down on us as we drive home - we know it’s only another hour or so to get there.

We had a disturbed night on the ferry as someone’s car alarm was going off at regular intervals. We wouldn’t recommend P&O to anyone. The food was disgusting - cold, tasteless and soggy. The staff were delightful - years ago P&O paid off their British workers and re-hired Asian people for far less money, another reason not to use them. We much preferred DFDS. But both are preferable to the long busy drive to Dover.

We did a Sainsbury shop en route and once home got the van unloaded and I did 2 lots of washing.

The garden is in a state though the bees are loving it. The roses must have been magnificent - they still putting on a show.

I had a medical appointment arrive in the post and had to re-arrange that which I did after 35 minutes in the queue. On the date given I’d got an arrangement with an old uni friend to meet her in Berwick as she was going to be staying with one of her friends in St Abbs. I didn’t want to buy a train ticket till I got home so checked with her it was still on, which she confirmed. I was glad I had been able to rearrange the medical thing so we could still meet. I bought my ticket there and was about to buy the homeward journey when she phoned to say her friend might now be going elsewhere, with her daughter. She was most apologetic and said her friends were unreliable (she’s always been a bit scatty herself!) but it might still go ahead. I’ll keep the day free but won’t buy a train ticket back yet.

We had masses of post including election leaflets. Reform didn’t bother with a photo of their candidate - they had Farage on it instead. I had no premium bond wins but had 2 adverts for funeral parlours and one for a care home and one for a stair lift.

182 miles today. The total for the trip was 4758 miles.
