Meadow Browns In the Earthworks

Two fascinating sites today, both in Dorset. The first was Tyneham Village, a 'lost' village requisitioned by the Ministry of Defence during world war two for training. The villagers left willingly to assist the war effort and were promised they could return. Sadly they were never allowed back as it remains on MOD land.

The second was a twelfth century church called Knowlton Chuch, unusually built in the middle of a Neolithic ritual henge earthwork.

The icing on the cake was the many marble white and meadow brown butterflies in the wild flowers surrounding the church. Perfect end to a lovely weekend.
