1960 Lyman Islander

This beautiful wooden boat was purchased in 1960 by Steve's father to use on the Saint Lawrence River, Wolfe Island, Ontario. The family's home and cottages are located here. Steve's great grandfather built the main house and his grandmother was born here on Wolfe Island.

This Lyman Islander is one of the boats that Steve learned how to navigate on! The boat is now 64 years old. Steve told me it's been repowered three times including just recently & refurbished twice. The name of the boat is Lofin and he says it's in showroom condition for an antique boat!

Today was my first time riding in this boat. Until now, Steve had other boats he used here in Canada. So, since we married in 2005, I had never been out in it. But recently his brother offered to partner with him for use of the boat so Steve would have a boat to use here. Steve helped pay for the latest refurbishing as Lofin had parts that needed replacing and a new cover. Now we can use the boat anytime we're visiting! You can see by the extras, I was happy to join Steve this afternoon.

We are having a wonderful visit... Family members are starting to arrive to celebrate Canada Day on July 1st! I wanted to write about this boat to celebrate the occasion of my first time in it and to remember and document family history. :o )
