The Pensioner

North & South

Out and about, I was. Man about town. Well, I’d headed up there to see James, the clipper. He’s a good chat - though there’s something about him - the way that sometimes he’s smart and sharp and at other times, like today, he wears a baggy dissolute face, that says substance abuse.
Anyway, I bad him adieu, and went on my way. Off the bus down near the bottom of Leith Walk, I strolled along, down Constitution Street where I sat out with a coffee and a wrap. An enjoyable saunter round the streets after that looking for a place to read in the sun. Which I found outside Teuchters Landing. What great writing there is the New Statesman. Writing America, from the outside by Jesse Amstrong had me captivated. I had to have a second pint.
And then on, to Ocean Terminal to see Bikeriders. I’d seen the trailer plenty times and the first time I saw it I thought what a load of old cod. But after reading a favourable review I thought I should give it a view. I’m so glad I did. A terrific film - Tom Hardy was just immense, Jodie Comer was excellent too, and a neat idea seeing it all through the eye of Danny Lyon, the documentary photographer. I think I need a bike.
