The Angel Of The Long Grass
It was back to our tour of Kent churchyards today and a return to St Margaret's of Antioch in Barming. I say return but my last image of this church was taken from quite a distance away last year and we wanted to explore it more closely on this occasion.
Again it's another church that sits at the end of a long narrow lane - which in this case is only just wide enough to get a car along. The church still lives up to its colloquial name of 'the church in the fields' and has remained unencumbered by development and surrounded by open fields since the first church was recorded being built there in around 1120.
The present graveyard, which is where I took today's shot, is a lovely tranquil space which was I particularly glad to have experienced as the rest of my day turned out to be pretty hectic. This image was captured just as a shaft of light crossed the swaying grass and threw the foreground and the angel into shadow whilst lighting up the background. I was initially a little annoyed later when I looked back at my image and I could see a blade of grass had blown across the angel's face at exactly the wrong moment but in the end I decided it did give a sense of her trying to emerge for the long grass!
