Ferry to the Hook of Holland

Day 35
We were woken by the alarm and drove to Harwich, a short trip. The usual mix of long waits and sudden urgency that getting on and off a ferry always seems to require, and then we gently departed for our untroubled crossing.
Once away from the Hook of Holland our rapid drive to Germany was halted by the closure of the main motorway. Why it was closed was a mystery, as was the question of an alternative route. Eventually we found a way past Utrecht but it took us along some VERY small roads and through some beautiful small towns. We definitely saw parts of Holland very few tourists have seen.
By the time we reached Germany Jan had been checking the app for places to stop for the night and came up with a real winner. A huge grassy carpark next to a small lake with a swimming beach! We arrived in the dark but the place felt good and the next day we found out how lovely it is, and I took my first swim of the season.
