Sgwarnog: In the Field

Burnet

I popped down to hill to Trench Meadows SSSI to see what was about, with the summer butterflies starting to emerge.

There was not a huge variety in species, but I did see my first Ringlet of the year, which are one of my favourites. The count for this visit: Meadow Brown (16); Ringlet (10) & Large Skipper (6). I’d been hoping for my first Common Blue of the year, but the area of the meadow where they can usually be seen was much longer than usual - I don’t know if they’ve changed the grazing regime, or just whether all the rain has fed the vegetation.

The main image is my first Burnet moth of the year - a Six-spot. Ringlet and a Meadow Brown pair in extras.
