A Night to Remember

Well, we make it down to London safely, a good train journey but for the fact that the on board cafe isn’t operational. This does, however, give us the excuse to call in at the most amazing Turkish cafe just before we get to our hotel. The displays are overflowing with the most stunning creations - but we settle for a plate of mixed baklava and some exquisite Turkish delight. 

I have few hours to rest at the hotel before heading to the Royal Opera House for this evening’s performance of Swan Lake. I’ve always wanted to see it here, and as our last booking was cancelled just as lockdown started - this is our chance to actually complete the treat. And we’re dining in Balconies which makes it even better. 

The whole thing doesn’t disappoint with orchestra, dancers, costumes and scenery all sublime. I used to think ROH tickets were hugely expensive, but comparing this with other ‘shows’ in London I now actually think they’re quite a bargain. 

I’ve booked this actual performance as Natalia Osipova is dancing Odette/Odile and she is everybit as wonderful as I’d hoped - such a beautiful dancer. She’s ably partnered by one of the newer Principal Dancers - Reece Clarke, one of four brothers all of who’s got into the Royal Ballet School. 

It’s been a truly wonderful evening.
