A modern weaver

Visiting an artist in her studio is always a pleasure and a privilege. You get to see first-hand their artistic process and in the case of textile artist and weaver Katherine Cowtan an opportunity to see the actual process of weaving.
We visited her studio in Fintry this afternoon, part of Open Studios, where Katherine along with a small team of helpers pulled together this event for The Trossachs area at very short notice .
I am fascinated by weaving. It is one of the oldest crafts in history dating back to Neolithic times
Early humans weaved branches, twigs and plant fibers to make utility objects like baskets.
But today a modern weaver like Katherine works with computerised machinery using her own designs to create beautiful cashmere scarves.

Open Studios finishes this weekend.
