The Repair Shop

I've been looking forward to revisiting the Weald And Downland Museum as I have such fond memories of our first visit. I regarded it as an example of the development of housing.

There have been changes, of course, as one would expect, the focus now more on education, with demonstrations from volunteers - flax preparation, Tudor kitchen cheese making, blacksmithing, flour milling - and evidence of farming with the four heavy horses, the place abuzz with activity.

But we could not miss a particular building, where the BBC programme The Repair Shop is filmed; and filming was in progress today. We watched several takes by Steadicam of silversmith Brenton walking from the workbench (on the left), carrying a chalice and entering the workshop door. To us it appeared to be the same each time but something must have been different until the cameraman was satisfied. Note the cameras on tripods ready for other filming. Photographs were not permitted, according to a large notice, but from the distance the public is kept there is little chance of anyone - celebrity or participant - being recognised.

There were only six other cars in the carpark and their owners hurrying towards them, when we left, a few minutes before closing time.
